Conciliation is the involvement of a third party neutral whose role is the ensure that the parties are able to talk and negotiate their differences. The skill of conciliation differs from mediation in that the conciliator plays no part in helping or guiding the parties to conceive and examine options that may solve their disagreement. The conciliator's role is restricted to the good will relationship of the parties and not to controlling or guiding the negotiation process.
