Civil disobedience is the refusal to obey one or more laws in order to protest a political or social situation based on one's principles and the belief that the wrong supported by that law or social/political situation should be redressed. Noted examples in history have been Ghandi's use of non- violent protest to usurp the British Imperial rule over India, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Freedom Marches to protest the second class treatment of Black Americans, and the Vietnam Protests during the 60's.
