Mediation is a dispute resolution process whereby two or more parties agree to refer their dispute to a mediator who assists them in finding a mutually agreeable and acceptable solution to their dispute.
The mediator’s role is not to judge or decide any issues, but rather to use the mediation process to promote communication between the parties and development of possible options from which the parties may choose their solution.
In the event the parties are not able to find a mutually agreeable and acceptable solution, the matter may proceed to a more formal and binding dispute resolution process, such as arbitration or litigation.
